Under Construction

02 - Installation

An installation on hard disk or on an SD card drive is more than recommended if not a necessity.

02.01 - AKAINOID Files

AKAINOID itself by now consists of the following files:

  • AKAINOID.ANP\AKAINOID.ANP
  • AKAINOID.ANP\AKAINOID.K01
  • AKAINOID.ANP\AKAINOID.SYX
  • IMG\AKAI.IMG
  • IMG\AN_HEAD.IMG
  • IMG\ATARI_ST.IMG
  • IMG\KEYGROUP.IMG
  • IMG\MAS.IMG
  • IMG\MIDI_IN0.IMG
  • IMG\MIDI_IN1.IMG
  • IMG\MODE_M.IMG
  • IMG\MODE_P.IMG
  • IMG\MODE_S.IMG
  • IMG\PLBTYPE1.IMG
  • IMG\PLBTYPE2.IMG
  • IMG\PLBTYPE3.IMG
  • IMG\PLBTYPE4.IMG
  • IMG\TB_ICN00.IMG
  • IMG\TB_ICN01.IMG
  • IMG\TB_ICN02.IMG
  • IMG\TB_ICN03.IMG
  • IMG\TB_ICN04.IMG
  • IMG\TB_ICN05.IMG
  • IMG\TB_ICN06.IMG
  • IMG\TB_ICN07.IMG
  • IMG\TB_ICN08.IMG
  • IMG\TB_ICN09.IMG

  • IMG\TB_ICN13.IMG
  • IMG\VELZONES.IMG
  • AKAIND_P.PRG
  • AKAIND_P.RSC
  • AKAIND_S.PRG
  • AKAIND_S.RSC
  • AKAINOID.PRG
  • AKAINOID.RSC
  • README.TXT
  • SMP_CAT.INF
  • VERSION.INF

in a folder called AKAINOID, which might actually be compressed to a .ZIP or an .LZH archive. Unzip or copy this program folder to your hard disk directory of choice.

As I thought, it actually is a bit of work converting your own samples to .AIF and getting them onto the Atari, I provided an extra folder called SAMPLES containing some punchy 44100Hz, 16Bit Mono samples of a basic, very 80s drum machine sound set, so you can instantly start checking out the application.

IMPORTANT:

If there should be a file called AKAINOID.INF in the program folder, make sure you delete it! This file will most likely freeze the Atari when you run the application for the first time.

02.02 - NVDI5.03

Download NVDI5.03 and install as decribed in the manual using the serial number provided. Reboot and make sure the COPS accessory, which comes with NVDI is being loaded and its .CPX for the Compability Control Panel is active. In doubt read the chapter about the Boot Sequence below.

In the Compability Control Panel uncheck all checkboxes and then click "Save". You may close this Control Panel now. Please excuse the German screen shot above but you'll get the idea.

02.03 - MROS and Drivers

AKAINOID makes use of Steinberg's MROS of which you will need a copy of. Don't worry - you won't need a Steinberg dongle to make MROS work.

In case you don't have the MROS files, you can download the final built of MROS from Steinberg's FTP server:

ftp.steinberg.net (no user name or password is required)

Go browse the Atari folders on the server and look for the archive

        MROS0296.ZIP,

download it and unzip its contents. Copy the file MROS3_45 to

C:\AUTO\ (presumed C: is your boot drive)

and rename it to:

        MROS3_45.PRG

Most of the rest of the files in the Steinberg .ZIP archive are MROS drivers for additional MIDI hardware such as MIDEX+ by Steinberg or UNITOR by C-LAB.

If you own such hardware, copy the corresponding driver file (e.g. MIDEX115.DR) to your AUTO folder just like with the MROS file above and rename its extension to:

        .PRG as well.

Reboot your Atari and MROS will be loaded during start-up.

Note: other versions of MROS should work, too. Just in case you are in possession of an earlier version and can't be bothered to use an FTP client.

02.04 - XBoot III and Boot Sequence
